In a bid to increase health insurance knowledge and penetration, M-tiba and Britam insurance have kicked off a 9-day educational roadshow campaign set to touch Nairobi and its environs.
The campaign is aimed at showcasing the importance & affordability of health insurance to the public in order to help more Kenyans make more informed health insurance decisions.
Speaking during the roadshow flag off, M-tiba managing director, Moses Kuria spoke on the relevance of the campaign.
“Medical bills and expenses could easily lead an individual to poverty. The uncertainty of falling ill leaves many people in fear and causes unexpected expenditure that greatly impacts one’s finances. However, affordable health cover plans exist to help deal with such matters and grant more Kenyans access to affordable healthcare while ensuring minimal & unexpected expenditure when disaster strikes,” Mr Kuria said.
With general insurance penetration at a record low of 2%, it is key for more insurance providers to step up and create educational campaigns not just for health insurance but general insurance to ensure a rise in penetration levels.
The campaign comes at a crucial time where Kenyans are more health conscious than ever before especially because of the COVID 19 pandemic that shifted mindsets to prioritize health in all ways possible.
“Now more than ever, Kenyans are more health conscious especially after the pandemic that either affected us or those close to us. It is therefore key for us to play our role and educate our consumers on just how important and beneficial health insurance covers can be,” said Evah Kimani, Director, Partnerships and Digital at Britam.
“We also aim to drive the narrative of affordable insurance to help dismiss the perception of insurance covers being an expensive affair because for as low as Ksh. 4661 per year Kenyans are granted access to annual covers that benefit them in time of need,” Kimani added.
Platforms such as M-tiba and many others, more Kenyans have access to affordable healthcare covers that cater to both inpatient and outpatient needs bringing accessibility of insurance services closer to the Kenyan population.
