With pre-made phishing kits readily available, even those with little technical knowledge can launch phishing operations.

According to data from Atlas VPN, e-shop brands were the most commonly used bait by phishers in 2022, accounting for 42% of financial phishing cases.

While companies in the banking and payment industries were also targeted, they only comprised about 10% of all financial phishing incidents.

The data comes from Kaspersky security product users who voluntarily provided anonymized data.

Amazon is the second most imitated brand with 15%, while Mercari, MercadoLibre, and eBay are used in only 6% of phishing attacks.

Payment systems are also targeted, with PayPal being the favorite target, accounting for 84.23% of phishing URLs for electronic payment systems.

Other payment systems such as American Express, Visa, and MasterCard have seen their shares decline significantly.
