Just three weeks after Nigeria’s communications regulator intervened, SpaceX’s Starlink has reversed a steep price increase for its satellite internet services in the country.

The company had raised its standard residential plan with a 1 TB fair usage policy to ₦75,000 ($48) from ₦38,000 ($24), while local roaming, which allows Starlink access beyond primary locations, saw an increase to ₦167,000 per month from ₦49,000. International roaming prices soared to ₦717,000 per month.

The hikes, set to take effect on October 31, faced swift regulatory pushback. Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) officials stated that Starlink failed to secure necessary regulatory approval for the price change, which violated the Nigerian Communications Act and specific tariff conditions in Starlink’s license.

Elon Musk previously noted on social platform X that the price adjustments were inflation-driven. However, the NCC reminded Starlink of Nigeria’s set guidelines for internet service providers, emphasizing that any unapproved price changes would face sanctions if not reversed.
