Mastercard Academy has unveiled ‘Master Your Card: Finance Demystified,’ a free online financial literacy course aimed at equipping individuals with essential personal finance skills.
Developed in collaboration with the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth, the course addresses a critical need for financial education, particularly in underserved communities, to enhance economic inclusion and financial well-being.
Globally, financial literacy remains a challenge, with the S&P Global FinLit Survey revealing that only 33% of adults understand basic financial concepts, leaving approximately 3.5 billion people, especially in developing economies, financially vulnerable.
Research from The World Bank Economic Review highlights that individuals who participate in financial education programs significantly improve their financial knowledge and adopt healthier financial behaviors, underscoring the importance of accessible financial education.
“At Mastercard, we are committed to democratizing financial literacy and providing everyone with the tools to achieve their financial goals,” said Driss Belemlih, Executive Vice President of Customer Delivery, EEMEA at Mastercard.
“Our new course simplifies complex financial concepts and empowers individuals, particularly young adults and underserved communities, to confidently manage their finances and avoid common pitfalls.”
The course offers interactive, engaging lessons covering four key areas:
- Electronic Payments
- Budgeting
- Credit Scores
- Financial Security
Through quizzes, real-world scenarios, and practical tips, participants gain hands-on experience in managing their personal finances.
Aligned with Mastercard’s goal of connecting 1 billion people to the digital economy by 2025, the program eliminates geographical barriers to financial education, making critical knowledge accessible to a broader audience.
Mastercard Academy, known for providing on-demand and instructor-led training to industry professionals, is now extending its expertise to the general public. Backed by over 200 experts across Mastercard’s global network, the academy offers insights and skills essential for success in today’s digital payments landscape.
“Financial literacy is a powerful enabler of economic growth and personal empowerment,” Belemlih added.
“By breaking down barriers to financial knowledge, we are helping individuals and communities unlock new opportunities and participate more fully in the global economy.”
With this initiative, Mastercard underscores its commitment to fostering inclusive growth and empowering individuals with the knowledge to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
