Liquid Intelligent Technologies has announced a significant upgrade to its 1,300-kilometer fiber route connecting Mombasa, Kenya’s coastal city, to Busia at the Uganda border. This expansion is a major step forward in strengthening digital connectivity in East Africa, bringing multi-terabit capacity and enhanced resilience to the region.

The upgraded route bolsters the company’s existing infrastructure between Kenya and Uganda, offering increased efficiency and reliability for digital services across multiple East African countries. With the ability to provide 99.99% uptime availability, Liquid aims to support critical business sectors and ensure seamless digital connectivity along this crucial route.

Adil El Youssefi, CEO of Liquid Intelligent Technologies for the Rest of Africa, emphasized the company’s commitment to advancing digital transformation across the continent. “This expansion is aligned with Liquid’s vision of a digitally connected Africa that leaves no one behind. The improved connectivity provided by this route, complementing our existing routes to the Uganda border, will support critical business sectors across the region, providing reliable, high-capacity networks essential for digital transformation and economic development. Liquid’s investment also complements the Kenyan government’s digital transformation initiatives, contributing the infrastructure and connectivity needed to develop digital superhighways and digitize services.”

Kenya has increasingly positioned itself as a regional digital hub, with several undersea cable providers docking at the port of Mombasa. Liquid’s new fiber route further strengthens this positioning by enhancing the region’s ability to handle growing data traffic, thereby boosting overall connectivity capabilities.

The new fiber route is equipped with advanced technology, enabling it to carry multiple terabits of data. This scalability ensures that Liquid Intelligent Technologies can meet the expanding needs of its retail, enterprise, and wholesale customers. The enhanced infrastructure also positions the company to support international hyperscalers, who are increasingly looking to establish a presence in Africa’s digital market.

By investing in robust digital infrastructure, Liquid is playing a critical role in facilitating East Africa’s growth as a digital economy. The company’s efforts are expected to unlock new opportunities for businesses, government agencies, and consumers, contributing to the region’s long-term economic development.

The upgraded Mombasa-to-Busia fiber route not only enhances Kenya’s role as a connectivity hub but also strengthens cross-border digital integration between Kenya and Uganda. This improved connectivity will provide faster and more reliable internet access to businesses and individuals in the region, driving digital innovation and creating a more connected East Africa.

As Liquid Intelligent Technologies continues to expand its infrastructure across Africa, the company remains at the forefront of the continent’s digital transformation, bringing high-speed, reliable internet to more people and businesses across borders.
