Stakeholders attending the 9th edition of Securexpo East Africa 2024 have called on Kenyans to embrace innovative solutions and technology to enhance online safety amid the country’s expanding digital transformation. As the number of online users continues to grow, so too have cybersecurity threats, creating an urgent need for robust security measures.

During the opening ceremony of the expo at Sarit Expo Centre, Thomas Bwaley, Director for Programmes & Standards at the ICT Authority, stressed the importance of public and private sector collaboration in tackling both digital and physical security challenges.

He emphasized that as Kenya continues its digital transformation, securing both infrastructure and users must be a priority.

“The government has an ambitious plan to roll out 100,000 kilometres of fibre, develop 1,450 ICT hubs in all wards, and install 25,000 public Wi-Fi hotspots across the country,” said Bwaley. “As access to the internet increases, so does the need for securing this infrastructure, as well as protecting the users in these online spaces.”

In line with this year’s theme, “Innovation for a Secure Future,” Bwaley highlighted that cybersecurity is now a necessity, not a luxury. “The security of our physical and digital environments is deeply intertwined, and innovation will play a key role in creating safer online spaces,” he added.

Angela Kinyua, Managing Director of Montgomery Group East Africa, also spoke on the significance of Securexpo 2024 as a platform for fostering partnerships and innovation in the security industry. “This exhibition is more than just an event—it is a powerful symbol of our commitment to progress, collaboration, and innovation,” she noted.

Ms. Kinyua also took the opportunity to recognize the winners of this year’s Outstanding Security Performance Awards (OSPAs), which celebrated excellence in the security sector.

Kenyan companies were particularly acknowledged for their outstanding contributions to global security standards, further solidifying the country’s role in shaping future security practices.

Securexpo East Africa 2024 will continue throughout the week, offering a platform for industry professionals to share best practices and explore the latest innovations in both physical and digital security.

Exhibitors include major players such as Security Systems, Securex, Two Way, Silvertech, Bistrol Distributions Systems, Draeger, Toshiba, and Lady Askari, among others.
