Kenyan insurtech startup, Turaco, has collaborated with Airtel Mobile and Prudential Assurance to launch an affordable hospital cash insurance product in Uganda.
The product, known as ‘Hospital Sente,’ provides a cash payout to beneficiaries who are hospitalised and offers funeral benefits as well.
It is designed to increase insurance access for underserved communities, low-income individuals, and families, as well as ease Airtel’s customers’ financial burden.
The insurance product is available through Airtel Money platform, and users can enroll by dialing 1857*6#. The product has three plans with affordable premiums, and it is underwritten by Prudential Uganda.
“We believe that this partnership will help increase access to insurance for low-income households and help protect families against unexpected events,” said Japheth Aritho, Managing Director of Airtel Mobile Commerce.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Prudential Uganda, Tetteh Ayitevie noted the collaboration will provide financial protection to more customers.
Hamza Mutebi, General Manager of Turaco, noted that the partnership would enable underserved Ugandans to access affordable insurance and provide a safety net in their times of need.
The product provides hospital cash payout for up to ten nights within a policy year and funeral benefits payable to the member’s nominated Next of Kin and it is available to all Airtel Money customers.
With this innovative and affordable insurance product, the partnership aims to provide financial protection to low-income households and increase mass-market insurance adoption in Uganda.
