Tecno Unveils Phantom V Flip2 and Phantom V Fold2 with integrated AI assistant

Tecno has launched two cutting-edge foldable smartphones, the Phantom V Flip2 and Phantom V Fold2, equipped with advanced AI features. These new devices mark a significant leap for the brand, integrating Tecno’s proprietary AI Suite directly into their core functionality, making them the first in the company’s lineup to come with AI capabilities right out of the box.

Building on the success of its predecessor, the Phantom V Fold2 offers impressive upgrades while maintaining familiar features such as the Dimensity 9000+ chipset, a large 7.85-inch inner display, and a 6.42-inch cover screen. The phone’s design has seen a significant overhaul, becoming slimmer and lighter. When unfolded, the device is just 6.1 mm thick and 12 mm when folded. Despite its weight reduction, now at 249 grams, the Fold2 still manages to house a larger battery for extended use.

What sets this device apart is its AI-powered Ella assistant, fueled by Google Gemini. Users can benefit from features like Smart Q&A, an AI-powered chatbot that offers real-time answers, and AI Summary, which condenses PDFs and web pages. The AI Translation tool allows for live translations during calls, while AI Writing provides creative assistance for summarizing, proofreading, and generating text.

Additionally, Tecno has incorporated creative AI tools such as AI Artboard, which converts simple sketches into polished artwork, and AI Wallpaper, enabling users to create personalized wallpapers from text prompts. The company’s Universal Tone Technology enhances photography by accurately capturing diverse skin tones, improving the camera experience for users worldwide.

The Phantom V Fold2’s camera system has undergone a complete redesign. It now boasts three 50 MP rear sensors, including a wide-angle main camera, an ultra-wide lens, and a portrait shooter. The device also features two 32 MP selfie cameras, positioned on both the inner and outer displays, ensuring high-quality selfies from any angle.

In terms of memory, the Fold2 offers a total of 24 GB RAM, with 12 GB of physical RAM and 12 GB of virtual RAM, along with 512 GB of storage. The device is powered by a 5,750 mAh battery that supports 70W fast charging, delivering a 50% charge in just 15 minutes, along with 15W wireless charging.

Priced at $1,099, the Phantom V Fold2 will hit the African market on September 23, with plans to launch in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America soon after.

Tecno’s Phantom V Flip2 offers a notable upgrade with a larger cover screen, featuring a 3.64-inch square panel with a resolution of 1,056 x 1,056. This cover display is designed for greater interactivity, allowing users to perform a variety of tasks without having to unfold the phone. The device’s inner display is a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED with Full HD+ resolution, ensuring a crisp and immersive viewing experience.

The Flip2 is designed with convenience in mind, supporting over 2,000 apps on the cover screen alone. Users can enjoy features like interactive pets, a full keyboard for typing and dialing, and a desktop-style application center for seamless multitasking. Despite its enhanced features, the phone retains its lightweight build, weighing under 200 grams and measuring just 7.6 mm when unfolded.

The dual-camera setup on the back features two 50 MP sensors, one of which is an ultra-wide lens with a 150-degree field of view, allowing users to capture more in every shot. There is also a 32 MP selfie camera on the inner display, complete with autofocus for high-quality images.

Like its foldable sibling, the Phantom V Flip2 is equipped with Tecno’s full AI Suite, including AI Translation, AI Writing, and the Ella voice assistant. The device also packs a 4,720 mAh battery, offering one of the largest capacities in the flip-phone category. Tecno claims that the 70W fast charging will provide 50% battery in just 15 minutes, with a full charge taking only 43 minutes.

Priced at $699, the Phantom V Flip2 will also be available in Africa on September 23, with subsequent releases in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.

With the release of the Phantom V Fold2 and Phantom V Flip2, Tecno continues to make foldable technology more accessible.
