In a strategic move to promote financial inclusion and expand the reach of digital banking, Premier Bank Kenya has partnered with global payment giant Mastercard to launch the country’s first suite of Shari’ah-compliant debit, credit, and prepaid cards.
This initiative is designed to meet the evolving financial needs of Kenya’s diverse population, particularly those seeking ethical banking solutions aligned with Islamic principles.
The collaboration was formalized during a signing ceremony in Nairobi, attended by Premier Bank CEO Osman Dualle and Mark Elliott, Division President for Africa at Mastercard. The new Premier Mastercard suite aims to redefine secure, innovative, and inclusive digital banking for individuals and businesses across Kenya.
With a focus on ethical and responsible financial practices, the Shari’ah-compliant cards will provide customers with a range of advanced features, including contactless payments for seamless transactions,
global acceptance across millions of merchants and ATMs worldwide and enhanced security through Mastercard’s cutting-edge fraud protection technologies.
“The Premier Mastercard suite reflects our commitment to delivering innovative financial solutions that cater to the evolving needs of our customers,” said Osman Dualle, CEO of Premier Bank Kenya. “Together with Mastercard, we aim to set new standards for digital banking in Kenya.”
Mastercard’s Shehryar Ali, Senior Vice President and Country Manager for East Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands, emphasized the partnership’s role in advancing financial inclusion.
“Our collaboration with Premier Bank is not just a product launch—it is a strategic initiative to enable communities with secure, convenient, and tailored financial services,” Ali said. “As Kenya continues to embrace digital transformation, this initiative will help shape a more inclusive financial landscape for individuals and businesses alike.”
The Premier Mastercard suite offers a variety of customer-centric benefits, including:
- Lounge access through the World Elite Card.
- Travel insurance for international and domestic trips.
- Retail discounts with merchants like Carrefour.
- Dining offers via Uber Eats and KFC.
- Travel discounts with major airlines.
To celebrate the launch, Premier Bank is offering limited-time promotions, including cashback and exclusive discounts for early adopters of the new cards.
The partnership is also expected to drive economic growth by creating jobs and enhancing local infrastructure. Premier Bank’s expansion into Shari’ah-compliant banking will support local communities, providing new financial opportunities for individuals and small businesses alike.
This initiative aligns with Premier Bank’s mission to promote ethical banking while supporting Kenya’s broader digital economy. By collaborating with Mastercard, the bank is poised to play a pivotal role in Kenya’s financial ecosystem, offering services that combine tradition with innovation.
