The Nigerian government has entered into a partnership with Ericsson to harness the capabilities of 5G technology within the country. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Dr. Bosun Tijani on behalf of Nigeria, with Patrick Johansson and Peter Olusoji Ogundele representing Ericsson.
The collaboration focuses on driving 5G development, deployment, and innovation across Nigeria. As Africa’s most populous nation, representing over 15% of the continent’s population, Nigeria’s leap into 5G is expected to significantly boost its digital economy.
The agreement highlights the importance of 5G in fostering economic growth and improving public services, supported by secure and reliable networks. The partnership also aims to promote technology knowledge transfer, establish innovation hubs, support tech startups, and enhance digital literacy.

Johansson expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting its potential to empower Nigerian businesses and citizens, while boosting the nation’s digital competitiveness.
“It was an honor to show the Vice President, and his delegation colleagues, Ericsson’s leadership in 5G and technology capabilities at first-hand. We look forward to working in close partnership with the Nigerian government to develop the innovation potential of 5G for Nigerian businesses, citizens, and for national digital competitiveness.” Johansson said
Key figures attending the event included Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and Communications Minister, Dr. Bosun Tijani, as well as other regional leaders and ICT officials.
