Kenya Internet Exchange Point (KIXP) has inaugurated a new Point of Presence (PoP) at iXAfrica Data Centers, significantly enhancing East Africa’s internet connectivity, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This collaboration takes advantage of iXAfrica’s hyper-scale NBOX1 facility, the only one of its kind in East and Central Africa, to strengthen the region’s burgeoning digital ecosystem.

With a population approaching 500 million and over 35% internet penetration, East Africa faces soaring demand for high-speed, reliable, and affordable internet services. The partnership between KIXP and iXAfrica addresses these needs by:

The establishment of the new Point of Presence (PoP) at iXAfrica’s advanced data center marks a significant leap in enhancing East Africa’s digital landscape. By reducing latency, the PoP ensures faster and more seamless internet experiences for businesses and users, driving greater network efficiency.

Additionally, localized traffic routing improves communication flow and bolsters the region’s digital economy, which is poised to exceed $10 billion in market value by 2025.

By minimizing dependence on costly international routes, the PoP also lowers internet costs, benefiting service providers and end-users alike.

Kenya’s role as a digital hub is further cemented through this initiative, which supports over 400 licensed operators, bridges the digital divide by connecting hyperscalers and local networks, and attracts global content providers.

This strategic move strengthens Kenya’s position as a gateway for international cloud and data services, fostering faster content delivery and broader regional connectivity.

“The collaboration with iXAfrica Data Centers is a significant milestone in our mission to enhance connectivity within Kenya and the region. Together, we are building a resilient and scalable internet infrastructure that empowers regional growth while ensuring accessible and efficient internet services for all,” said Fiona Asonga, CEO of TESPOK.

“iXAfrica Data Centers is committed to shaping East Africa’s digital landscape by providing the advanced infrastructure required for transformational change. This partnership with KIXP strengthens our position as the leading hyperscale data centre in East and Central Africa,” added Snehar Shah, CEO of iXAfrica.

The initiative aligns with the African Union’s Digital Transformation Strategy 2020-2030, emphasizing seamless communication across borders and improved international internet performance. By optimizing traffic routing and reducing latency, the PoP enhances East Africa’s appeal as a hub for global digital investment.
