Djibouti has taken a significant leap in its quest to become a regional digital powerhouse with the launch of the TO7 Technology Park by Wingu Group, East Africa’s leading carrier-neutral data center operator. The park, which features a Tier 3 Data Center, a Cable Landing Station, and an Innovation Center, positions the country as a critical player in the global digital economy.
The inauguration ceremony, attended by Djibouti’s President, Ismail Omar Guelleh, alongside government ministers, ambassadors, and international dignitaries, marked a milestone in the nation’s digital transformation efforts.
At the heart of the TO7 Technology Park is the Tier 3 Data Center, offering 99.982% uptime reliability to support vital services for businesses, governments, and international partners. The facility is designed to meet the growing demand for secure and scalable digital infrastructure across East Africa.
The Cable Landing Station enhances Djibouti’s strategic role as a global telecommunications hub, connecting major regions, including Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. This infrastructure will facilitate high-speed international data transfers, boosting the country’s connectivity and reinforcing its importance in global data routes.
The Innovation Center aims to foster local entrepreneurship and technology development by providing collaborative workspaces and access to cutting-edge resources. The center is expected to drive a vibrant startup ecosystem, nurturing the next generation of tech talent in Djibouti.
The TO7 Technology Park is poised to be a catalyst for economic growth, attracting foreign investment, creating jobs, and developing local technical expertise. Sectors such as education, healthcare, and business are expected to benefit from the enhanced digital infrastructure and innovation support.
“The launch of the TO7 Technology Park represents a transformative step for Djibouti’s digital economy. This facility not only provides world-class infrastructure but also fosters innovation, job creation, and economic development, positioning Djibouti as a leader in the global tech space,” said Nicholas Lodge, Co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer of Wingu Group.
The new data center complements Wingu’s existing facility in Djibouti, which has been successfully operating for over a decade. The integration of a carrier-neutral data center with a cable landing station is a first for the region, offering modern cable systems seamless interconnectivity and open access, a critical feature for today’s interconnected world.
Wingu Group remains committed to supporting Djibouti’s vision of becoming a regional ICT hub and looks forward to partnering with local and international stakeholders to build a thriving digital ecosystem.
