Glovo Kenya’s GM advocates innovation and inclusivity at University of Nairobi tech week

Caroline Mutuku, the Country General Manager of Glovo Kenya, captivated attendees at the University of Nairobi’s Tech Week Expo during a panel discussion themed Women Shaping the Future of Technology. Her insights underscored the importance of innovation, mentorship, and gender inclusivity as key drivers of progress in the tech industry.

Mutuku emphasized staying ahead of technological advancements, particularly in artificial intelligence, to inspire the next generation of women in tech. “Being a role model means not only keeping up with changing trends but also sharing knowledge to empower others,” she said.

She encouraged participants to foster a culture of innovation by embracing new ideas and solutions that create value. Mutuku also highlighted the importance of mentorship and networking, especially from women who have navigated similar career paths, to build a strong support system.

Mutuku shared her mantra for aspiring professionals: “Don’t just settle for good; strive for excellence. Let your work be your signature. Remember, you stand on the shoulders of giants. Embrace opportunities, learn from mentors, and make your mark.”

Her leadership at Glovo has resulted in significant growth, including the expansion of its courier network from 700 to 1,300 since her appointment in 2022, creating economic opportunities for young people.

Glovo has also demonstrated a strong commitment to gender diversity, with women leading four of its six African markets, including Kenya, Uganda, Côte d’Ivoire, and Nigeria. Additionally, the company boasts a Kenyan woman as its Global CTO, with 30% of leadership roles held by women.

Mutuku announced Glovo’s new graduate trainee program for sales executives, an initiative designed to equip fresh graduates with the skills to thrive in Kenya’s tech industry.

She also highlighted Glovo Local, a program aimed at supporting small and medium-sized businesses by offering social media training and promoting sustainable packaging to enhance market access.
