Huawei recently hosted its second ICT Competition roadshow at Kenyatta University as part of a national drive to recruit over 7,000 students for the 2024-2025 competition season.
The roadshow is part of Huawei’s efforts to encourage students from Kenyan universities and technical colleges to participate in this global competition, offering a platform for young talent to showcase their technological skills and innovative solutions.
At the event, Michael Kamau, Partnerships and Corporate Affairs Manager and Head of the Huawei ICT Academy in Kenya, emphasized the role of the competition in preparing students for careers in the digital economy. “Our commitment is to equip the next generation of tech leaders with essential knowledge and skills to excel in the digital age. This ICT competition provides students with exposure to the latest technologies and an opportunity to solve real-world challenges,” Kamau said.
The ICT Competition is one of Huawei’s key talent development initiatives, designed to foster ICT expertise, inspire innovation, and close Kenya’s digital skills gap.
In recent years, the program has seen rising interest, with participants gaining hands-on experience in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and network security.
At Kenyatta University, Huawei representatives engaged with students through hands-on demonstrations and guided registration sessions.
Hundreds of students attended, listening to guest speakers, faculty, and former participants share insights on how the competition has shaped their career paths.
Participants have the chance to represent Kenya in the global finals, network with industry experts, and earn prizes, including certificates, gadgets, and even potential job placement.
