Wordly Now Lets You Listen To Translations While Multitasking, No Headset Required

By letting participants listen while multitasking, automatically detecting languages, and enabling real-time interaction without creating accounts or installing extra hardware, the app turns accessibility into a seamless part of the event experience

Wordly, a provider of live AI-powered translation and captioning, has introduced mobile-focused upgrades to its translation app, aiming to help conference and event organisers expand multilingual access without adding equipment or staff.

The enhancements come as international attendance rebounds and hybrid event formats remain common, increasing demand for real-time language services that can scale across large venues and distributed audiences.

The updated Wordly Translation App adds background audio and screen-lock functionality, enabling attendees to continue listening to live translations while switching between apps or locking their devices to conserve battery life. A new instant language search feature is designed to help users quickly select from dozens of supported languages, reducing onboarding time at live events.

“Event professionals are rethinking accessibility as a core part of the attendee experience,” said Lakshman Rathnam, Founder and CEO of Wordly. “These mobile enhancements give organizers a scalable way to provide inclusive, multilingual access without additional hardware, staffing, or logistical burden.”

The company also introduced new tools for speakers and session leaders. A push-to-talk feature allows presenters to engage in two-way multilingual exchanges during breakout sessions and workshops, while automatic language detection adjusts translations when speakers switch languages mid-session.

Unlike traditional interpretation services, which often rely on physical headsets, interpreters and dedicated booths, Wordly’s system operates on attendees’ own iOS or Android devices. Participants enter a session ID provided by organisers and select their preferred language, without creating an account. Speakers can access additional features through a secure passcode.

As event organisers weigh costs and operational complexity, technology-based interpretation tools are increasingly being positioned as an alternative to on-site interpretation teams. Industry analysts say such tools could help broaden participation at global trade shows, corporate gatherings, association meetings and public sector events, particularly where budgets or logistics make traditional setups difficult.
