Ride-hailing and food delivery platform Yango has partnered with African payments company Flutterwave to expand cashless payment options in Zambia, the companies said, as digital commerce gathers pace in the southern African nation.
Yango, part of the global technology company Yango Group, will integrate Flutterwave’s card processing infrastructure into its Zambian platform, allowing customers to pay for taxi rides and food deliveries using bank cards. The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the partnership.
The move comes as Zambia pushes to modernize its payments ecosystem, with rising adoption of mobile money, card payments and online services in urban areas. Cash remains dominant in much of the economy, but fintech firms and app-based service providers are competing to accelerate the shift toward digital transactions.
“At Yango, we are focused on making our service delivery more convenient, secure, and accessible for our customers and restaurant partners,” said Kabanda Chewe, Yango’s country head in Zambia. “Partnering with Flutterwave allows us to strengthen our digital payment capabilities while supporting Zambia’s transition toward a more digitally enabled economy. This is an important step in improving the overall experience for customers and helping restaurants grow through reliable digital transactions.”
Through the integration, card payments made on the Yango app will be processed through Flutterwave’s payment gateway, which is used by businesses across Africa to accept local and international cards. The companies said the partnership is aimed at improving transaction reliability and security as more consumers and merchants opt for cashless options.
Flutterwave, founded in 2016, operates in more than 30 African countries and provides payment processing services to enterprises, banks and startups. Zambia is one of several markets where the company has sought to deepen its footprint amid growing demand for digital financial services.
“Our partnership with Yango represents Flutterwave’s commitment to making payments seamless and accessible across Africa,” said Iyembi Nkanza, Flutterwave’s country head in Zambia. “By integrating our payment infrastructure with Yango’s platform, we’re empowering Zambians with secure, convenient payment options that remove friction from everyday transactions. This is exactly the kind of innovation that drives financial inclusion forward.”
Yango operates ride-hailing and delivery services in multiple emerging markets and has been expanding its presence in Africa in recent years. The company said the addition of card payments forms part of a broader strategy to support restaurant partners, drivers and customers with technology-driven services.
