Binance Links Road Safety to Digital Asset Protection in Kenya Campaign

As crypto adoption accelerates in Kenya and the country moves toward ratifying a digital assets law signed by President William Ruto last October, Binance is using a community safety campaign to stress the importance of user protection as more Kenyans enter the regulated crypto market

Binance launched a community-focused safety campaign in Kenya today, seeking to link everyday physical safety practices with digital security as the cryptocurrency exchange pushes to build trust in Africa’s largest economies.

The initiative, launched in Nairobi during the Data Privacy Week, uses familiar Kenyan experiences to explain crypto security in simple terms, drawing parallels between physical protection on the road and safeguarding digital assets online.

The launch event brought together boda boda riders, safety partners, local officials, members of the crypto community and the media. At the centre of the activation was the distribution of safety helmets and reflective gear to boda boda riders, alongside education on helmet use and road safety.

Binance said the effort mirrors the protections it applies to its digital platform, where it uses encryption, multi-factor authentication, withdrawal controls and continuous monitoring to secure users’ funds and personal data.

“Wearing a helmet is a simple yet powerful way to protect yourself on the road. In the same way, Binance’s secure platform empowers individuals to take control of their financial future with confidence and freedom,” said Saruni Maina, Regional Operations Lead, Binance Africa. “We want every Kenyan to feel safe, whether they are navigating Nairobi’s streets or exploring the digital financial world. Security isn’t optional; it’s the foundation of opportunity.”

Safety remains a daily concern for millions of Kenyans, particularly boda boda riders who depend on motorcycles for income and face high accident risks in congested urban centres. Industry groups have long highlighted the cost of protective gear as a barrier to wider adoption of safety standards.

The campaign reinforced its messaging through everyday scenarios such as charging a phone fully before leaving the house, double-checking a matatu fare or confirming an early morning alarm, presenting these habits as equivalents of responsible behaviour in the digital economy.

For riders attending the event, the initiative resonated both practically and symbolically.

“A helmet can save your life, but many riders cannot afford proper gear. Today’s event shows that our safety matters, and it reminds us that protecting ourselves online is just as important. Binance has taken a thoughtful approach, showing care for both our physical and financial well-being,” said Calvince Okumu, President of the Digital Boda Drivers and Deliveries Association of Kenya.

He said the campaign also introduced riders to the idea of protecting income earned through digital platforms.

“Just as we rely on helmets to reduce risks on the road, we need tools to protect our earnings in the digital space. This initiative brings that message home in a way that makes sense to our community,” Okumu added.

Binance has increasingly focused on user education and security messaging as regulators across Africa scrutinise cryptocurrency platforms more closely and as adoption grows among retail users.

“Trust is the foundation of crypto adoption. We don’t just provide technology; we educate and engage communities so that users feel confident navigating the digital economy,” Maina said.

“Our goal is to ensure that whether you are a first-time crypto user or an experienced trader, you have the knowledge and tools to keep your assets safe. Just like a helmet, security measures must be in place before you face risk.”

Binance said the Safety Campaign will continue across digital platforms through social media engagement, influencer partnerships and post-event content, including videos and photo galleries, as it seeks to deepen its presence and credibility across African markets.
