BasiGo is making huge strides in ensuring Nairobi’s switch to green transport is expanding by importing 15 partially-assembled electric buses.
The logistics startup via its Twitter handle said, “Thank you @Kenya_Ports for your support in receiving this historic shipment of Electric Buses into Kenya! Together, we are welcoming the future of public transport for Kenya that will be powered by 100% domestically produced renewable energy!”
The firm said the partially assembled electric buses will now be taken to the Associated Vehicle Assemblers (AVA) Mombasa for final assembly and finishing, before making their way to Nairobi for delivery to the customers.
This comes after the company recently received $6.6 million in new funding round, totaling BaisGo’s funding in 2022 to $10.9 Million which was to enable the firm to begin commercial delivery of locally manufactured electric buses and charging infrastructure through the company’s unique Pay-As-You-Drive financing model.
BasiGo aims to have over 1,000 electric buses deployed in Kenya by the end of 2025.
