Samsung Electronics still leading the global TV market for 16 consecutive years

Samsung Electronics is still leading the global television (TV) market for 16 consecutive years now, with an increase of 19.8% share; says the research firm, Omdia.

The research recognized Samsung as the best TV brand under the category, of appliances.

The award comes after Samsung sold 9.43 million QLED TVs last year alone and further where 42.1% were high-end TVs, which accounted for 44.9% of supersize TVs with screens 80 inches or bigger.

Samsung Electronics East Africa Head of Consumer Electronics Division, Mr Sam Odhiambo assured consumers that the firm will focus more on advanced in-home entertainment solutions, that will offer unmatched picture and audio quality while adding great aesthetic value to their homes.

“Due to consumers’ content consumption preferences rapidly evolving, the increase in demand for TVs is currently being driven by internet penetration. As more people connect their homes to the internet we are seeing more people acquire smart TVs with 4K and 8K video quality because they now have access to content streaming services.”

Samsung Electronics has been able to consistently maintain its position as the top TV market share holder since 2006.

Regarding the premium TV market, which refers to TVs worth more than $2,500, Samsung Electronics’ share of the market is 53.6% higher than LG Electronics (21.5%) and Sony (17.2%).

“Since 2017, 30.65 million units of QLED products, which is our main product, have been sold as of the first half of this year,” the report said, adding that the company also recorded a “48.6% share in the 80-plus-inch TV market.”

The report further stated that the OLED TV market recorded 2.74 million more units shipped in the first half of the year, marking an increase of 0.6% compared to the same period last year, despite the global TV demand falling rapidly due to inflation.
LG Electronics has a 62% share of the OLED TV market.

In total, LG Electronics shipped 11.36 million OLED and LCD TVs in the first half of this year, 33.2% of which were OLED TVs.
