Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC has officially launched its 4G network in Gambella City and its surrounding areas, marking a significant milestone in its mission to connect the entire nation with high-speed internet.
This expansion underscores the company’s commitment to fostering digital inclusion and driving economic growth in Ethiopia.
Wim Vanhelleputte, CEO of Safaricom Ethiopia, expressed enthusiasm about the development, stating, “We are dedicated to expanding our presence across Ethiopia and are thrilled to welcome Gambella to the Safaricom family.”
H.E. Alemitu Oumud, President of the Gambella Region, emphasized the transformative potential of improved digital infrastructure. “We commend Safaricom Ethiopia for its role in creating jobs, enhancing connectivity, and positioning Gambella as an attractive destination for investment,” she said. The region stands to benefit significantly from increased economic activity and social development enabled by enhanced telecommunications services.
In a move to support digital literacy and education, Safaricom Ethiopia has donated 20 laptops and 4 routers with six months of free internet access to two high schools in Gambella City. This initiative aims to empower the region’s youth by providing them with essential tools to thrive in a digital world.
