Ericsson demonstrates 5G’s transformative power during technology days in Morocco

As Morocco gears up for major digital advancements and international sports events, Ericsson hosted its Technology Days from December 3rd to 6th in Rabat and Casablanca. The event gathered key stakeholders from the telecom sector to explore the transformative potential of 5G in shaping the country’s digital future.

The initiative aligns with Morocco’s Digital Morocco 2030 strategy, which includes plans to launch 5G technology as a cornerstone of its digital transformation.

During the event, Ericsson engaged with customers, regulators, local telecom operators, industry partners, and the media, showcasing live demonstrations of 5G applications. Highlights included immersive sports fan experiences, AI-driven network performance optimization, and innovative revenue opportunities through network slicing and Network Exposure.

A central theme of the event was the role of 5G in enhancing various sectors. For example, in sports, 5G is set to revolutionize fan experiences with real-time engagement and superior live-streaming capabilities.

The discussions also emphasized how communication service providers (CSPs) can leverage AI and cognitive tools to automate network management, improve service quality, and support economic development.

Ericsson’s November 2024 Mobility Report, unveiled during the event, forecasted significant growth in mobile subscriptions across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, reaching 830 million by 2030. Notably, 5G is expected to account for 60% of these subscriptions, underscoring the region’s rapid adoption of advanced connectivity as older technologies like 2G and 3G are phased out.

Majda Lahlou Kassi, Vice President and Head of Ericsson West Africa & Morocco, highlighted the broad impact of 5G:

“5G has the potential to transform industries such as sports, manufacturing, port operations, and mining by enabling real-time data exchange and enhancing efficiencies. Hosting Ericsson’s Technology Days in Morocco allowed our partners and stakeholders to engage with experts and witness innovations that will drive the country’s 5G rollout. This is a key part of our #AfricaInMotion vision.”

Ericsson reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with local stakeholders to accelerate Morocco’s digital transformation and contribute to its economic growth.

This event not only highlighted the immense potential of 5G but also emphasized its role in fostering innovation, improving connectivity, and propelling Morocco into a digitally advanced era.
