WhatsApp users will soon be able to edit messages for up to 15 minutes after being sent.
The users, the instant-messaging platform said, will be able to add and delete content while fixing spelling mistakes.
“From correcting a simple misspelling to adding extra context to a message, we’re excited to bring you more control over your chats,” the social media platform said in a blog post, noting that “All you need to do is long-press on a sent message and choose ‘Edit’ from the menu for up to fifteen minutes after.”
Correction feature is already offered by WhatsApp rivals such as Telegram and Discord.
The instant-messaging service is owned by Meta, which also owns Facebook and Instagram.
Currently, WhatsApp boasts 2 billion users, with India accounting for 487 million subscribers.
Initially, the edited messages will be marked “edited”, but this will change in future.
The edit function was first introduced by Facebook about a decade ago, with updated posts being indicated as edited on Facebook.
Last year, Twitter introduced a feature enabling subscribers to edit their tweets several times 30 minutes after posting.
“Tweeting will feel more approachable and less stressful,” Twitter noted in introducing the change.
“You should be able to participate in the conversation in a way that makes sense to you and we’ll keep working on ways that make it feel effortless to do just that,” the platform added.
