WhatsApp now enables one account across multiple phones

WhatsApp has announced a new feature that will allow users to link their accounts on multiple phones.

Via its blog, WhatsApp noted the feature has been highly requested by users and will enable people to use up to four additional devices with the same WhatsApp account.

This update is an improvement on the existing multi-device feature, which already allows users to message across all their devices while maintaining privacy and security.

Each linked phone will be able to connect to WhatsApp independently, ensuring end-to-end encryption for personal messages, media, and calls.

If the primary device is inactive for an extended period, the user will automatically be logged out of all companion devices. This will prevent any unauthorized access to their account.

The new feature will make it easier for users to switch between phones without signing out, and they can pick up their chats where they left off.

“This will be especially useful for small business owners who can now have additional employees responding to customers directly from their phones under the same WhatsApp Business account,” read part of the blog.

The update is already rolling out to users globally and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.

WhatsApp is also introducing an alternative and more accessible way to link to companion devices. Users can enter their phone number on WhatsApp Web to receive a one-time code, which they can use on their phone to enable device linking instead of having to scan a QR code.

“WhatsApp is continually improving its features to make messaging easier and more accessible for its users. The company looks forward to introducing this feature to more companion devices in the future.”
