Uber Eats has rolled out a series of new safety features aimed at enhancing the safety of its delivery partners. These updates are part of the platform’s ongoing efforts to prioritize road safety and address concerns raised by both drivers and motorists.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety of everyone using our platform,” said Cassie Jaganyi, Head of Communications for Uber. “With these new features, we’re reinforcing our dedication to keeping delivery people safe, which is crucial to maintaining our position as the leading food delivery platform.”
Uber Eats has partnered with Big Boy Fourways to provide delivery partners with updated safety guidelines, including the importance of proper personal protective equipment (PPE). Studies show that wearing a helmet can significantly reduce the risk of severe brain injury or death in the event of a collision by absorbing much of the impact.
As part of this partnership, Uber Eats drivers can now receive a 50% discount on new helmets from Big Boy Fourways. In addition, Uber Eats has arranged a delayed payment option with Big Boy and Motopay to ensure drivers can afford these essential safety items.
“Helmets are a critical element of road safety,” says Conrad Botha, Director of Big Boy Fourways. He emphasized that helmets should be replaced every two to four years due to the natural deterioration of the materials. Drivers are also advised to replace helmets immediately if they have been damaged or no longer fit properly.
To further enhance safety, Uber Eats has partnered with the emergency response platform Aura to offer instant access to medical and security services for drivers involved in accidents.
“With these new safety measures and partnerships, Uber Eats is continuing its journey toward creating a safer and more prosperous delivery ecosystem for all,” Jaganyi concluded.
