Safaricom unveils revamped 5G for business to accelerate SME growth in Kenya

Safaricom has unveiled an enhanced 5G for Business service designed to provide small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with faster, more reliable connectivity to support their growing digital demands. The revamped service promises up to five times higher speeds, enabling seamless real-time collaboration, smoother online transactions, and efficient remote operations.

The announcement was made during the ‘Grow with Safaricom Business’ Western Kenya edition, part of the Sambaza Furaha na Safaricom Caravan, an initiative aimed at equipping SMEs with the knowledge and tools to scale their businesses through technology.

“The new 5G for Business ensures SMEs can access enterprise-grade internet without overstretching their budgets. This will empower them to enhance productivity, improve customer interactions, and scale operations efficiently in today’s connected marketplace,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom PLC.

To encourage uptake, Safaricom is offering a 25% discount on all 5G plans for businesses that sign up between November 29 and December 31, 2024.

Kenya’s SME sector plays a crucial role in the economy, with over 7.4 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) employing approximately 14.9 million people and contributing 30% of the country’s GDP, according to the Kenya Institute of Public Policy Research and Analysis.

With this initiative, Safaricom aims to bolster digital transformation and drive growth within Kenya’s SME sector.
