Kenya’s leading mobile phone operator Safaricom has reduced prices of the Adrian and Huawei series of the 4G Wi-Fi routers by up to 40 percent as part of its plans to boost uptake of home internet.

Under the new rates, the Huawei router will now sell for Sh6,999 down from Sh10,999 while the Adrian router will cost Sh5,999 from Sh9,999.
“It’s time to enjoy movies galore, gaming with friends and so much more at up to 40 percent off on 4G Wi-Fi,” Safaricom said in a notice across the telco’s social networks.

Subscribers can apply online for the router of their choice, pay for it remotely and have it delivered to their homes for set up. They can also visit a Safaricom shop and buy the router.
The two routers come with 30GB of free data valid for 30 days complementing the package chosen.
Safaricom was the first telco to launch the 4G network in the country in 2014. The network covered the whole country three years later in December 2017.
The network enabled Safaricomto provide data services to top segment of the market hitherto served by fibre-to-home providers such as Jamii Telecommunications (trading as Faiba) and Wananchi Group (trading as Zuku).
In 2019, Safaricom ruled out the possibility of phasing out the 4G network as it planned to launch 5G.

Kenya’s telecoms y market has witnessed changes as users reduce voice calls and increase uptake of data. This has compelled service providers to switch gears to meet customers’ shifting needs.
Safaricom, which boasts of 35.6 percent of the country’s fixed internet market share, according to sector statistics released in December last year, has been leading the pack in the shift.
