Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) has partnered with Moringa School to impart 1 million youth with cutting-edge digital skills to enable them tap the vast opportunities found in the digital economy.
The deal will support the design and implementation of the Jitume program, which aims to enable the youth to overcome barriers related to devices and skills.
The five-year partnership, signed at the 12th edition of Connected Summit held at Diamonds Leisure Lodge in Diani, Kwale County, will see youths access training on digital skills via the Moringa School platforms.
The Jitume initiative entails Jitume Digital Empowerment Centers that have offer opportunities while Jitume Class are learning centres . The plan also job linkages in partnership with private sector companies in Kenya.
The program targets to enable one million youths in Kenya to take part in digitally enabled jobs in the next three to five years.
The deal also focuses on the technology transfer between the two institutions, which will also jointly work to promote local content and customise technologies from the world over to fit the local context.
ICT and Digital Economy Principal Secretary Engineer John Tanui commended the partnership, stating that it will boost digital skills that underpin the digital economy.
“We appreciate this initiative by Konza and Moringa School that will ensure that programs available at Moringa School are accessible to Jitume beneficiaries. This will enable young Kenyans to get quality training and access to global opportunities,” said the PS.
The PS noted that the youth will be able to learn and access digital skills which shall propel them to access global online jobs
The MoU will see Moringa connecting participants of Jitume who further enrol on Moringa programs to local and international employers.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Konza, John Paul Okwiri noted that the MoU is a boost to the Jitume Program which is currently being rolled out across the country.
“We are very grateful and happy to get this kind of support from Moringa School. We have been working with TVETs institutions, but this signing today will enable us to roll it out to the rest of the country through the institution”
Konza Technopolis Development Authority Is the implementing agency for Konza Technopolis, a vision 2030 flagship project that seeks to make Konza a smart city of international standards, to position Kenya as a knowledge-based economy and a preferred Science, Technology & Innovation (ST&I) destination.
The city is already starting to show its impact on the country through such programs as Jitume and is expected to generate at least 17,000 direct jobs at the end of Phase One.
CEO of Moringa Schools, Snehar Shah noted that the MoU build onto their success as a training institution while supporting digital jobs creation in Kenya.
“Today is a milestone day for Moringa School. We have achieved a lot in creating digital talent and this engagement will scale up these achievements going ahead,” he said.
