MTN Nigeria becomes first in nation to attain CMS certification

MTN Nigeria has made history by becoming the first organization in Nigeria—and the first within the telecommunications industry and MTN Group—to earn the Compliance Management System (CMS) certification from the International Accreditation Service (IAS). This globally recognized certification underscores MTN Nigeria’s commitment to upholding world-class compliance standards across its operations.

The certification covers a wide range of management activities, including telecommunications, digital services, mobile voice and data, innovative digital platforms, wholesale distribution, fixed and mobile broadband connectivity, and advanced technology solutions for corporate and institutional clients across Nigeria.

Speaking on the achievement, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, Obiageli Ugboma, emphasized the company’s dedication to maintaining a robust compliance framework:

“Achieving this feat is a testament to our proactive approach to managing risks in an evolving digital landscape. It reinforces our promise to connect Nigerians with secure, reliable, and innovative solutions.”

The ISO 37301:2021 CMS standard, which MTN Nigeria now adheres to, serves as a benchmark for effective compliance management. The certification not only strengthens stakeholder trust but also ensures that the company continuously improves its compliance framework in line with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.

By obtaining this certification, MTN Nigeria positions itself as a leader in compliance management, setting a precedent for excellence in the telecommunications sector and beyond. The achievement reflects its commitment to fostering a culture of integrity, mitigating risks, and enhancing corporate governance and operational efficiency.

The International Accreditation Service (IAS) is a globally recognized accreditation body that certifies organizations based on international compliance standards. IAS accreditation is widely accepted both locally and internationally, reinforcing its credibility and relevance.

MTN Nigeria’s accomplishment marks a significant step forward in aligning with global best practices, further solidifying its reputation as an industry leader in corporate responsibility and regulatory compliance.
