Malawi embraces digital STEM learning with MiLab app

Malawi is taking a significant step toward modernizing its education system with the MiLab app, a digital learning tool designed to enhance STEM education through virtual experiments.

Developed through a collaboration between Malawi’s Ministry of Education, Mzuzu University, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the app aims to bridge resource gaps in schools that lack physical laboratories and essential science equipment. By offering an interactive platform for students to explore scientific concepts, MiLab supports the country’s broader push toward digital education.

Speaking at a high-level meeting at Mzuzu University, Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima, Malawi’s Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, underscored the app’s importance in advancing the Malawi 2063 Vision, specifically its Mid-Term Implementation Plan (MIP-1), which prioritizes education digitalization.

“This initiative ensures that students, regardless of their school’s infrastructure, have access to quality STEM education,” Wirima said.

By leveraging technology to simulate laboratory experiences, the MiLab app is positioning Malawi as a leader in digital learning innovation, addressing long-standing challenges in STEM education and preparing students for a tech-driven future.
