The M-PESA Foundation has announced the allocation of $587, 700 (KES 77 million) towards organizing free medical camps aimed at benefiting residents across 12 counties in Kenya.

This initiative is a continuation of a series of medical camps previously conducted by the Foundation in collaboration with Zuri Health and Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital. The first phase covered 12 counties, positively impacting over 30,000 individuals. The upcoming phase aims to extend assistance to the remaining counties.

The most recent medical camp took place at Drive In Primary School in Mathare, Nairobi County. More than 5,000 residents availed themselves of a variety of health services, including general consultations, cervical and breast cancer screening, fistula screening, diabetes screening, hypertension monitoring, and child health consultations.

In its commitment to improve maternal and child health, the Foundation also visited Mathare North Hospital to distribute 50 packs to new mothers. These packs contain essential items for both mothers and babies, demonstrating the Foundation’s dedication to supporting maternal and child welfare.

“In the first phase of our free medical camps, we realized the need to continue taking healthcare services closer to the people, which is why we are investing in 12 more medical camps. This new phase began in Siaya County last month, and as we host the Nairobi medical camp, we have a keen focus on Malaria and Cholera, which have emerged as key health concerns following the ongoing rains,” said Karen Basiye, Executive Director, M-PESA Foundation.

In response to the adverse effects of the ongoing heavy rains and subsequent floods, the Foundation extended its support to displaced families currently taking shelter at the school by distributing both food and non-food items.

The medical camp series  commenced in Lamu County in May last year and has since been conducted in various counties across Kenya, including Nairobi, Kakamega, Mombasa, Meru, Kisumu, Trans Nzoia, Narok, Nyandarua, Garissa, Kirinyaga, and Machakos.

During these medical camps, Zuri Health plays a vital role by providing technology solutions. Patients have access to free follow-up consultations with doctors via SMS and WhatsApp for a duration of up to six months.
