Google South Africa appoints Kabelo Makwane as new country director

Google has named Kabelo Makwane, a seasoned leader with over two decades of experience in the technology sector, as its new country director for South Africa. Makwane will officially assume his role on January 6, 2025.

Makwane transitions to Google from his role as Managing Executive for Cloud, Hosting, and Security at Vodacom Business. His illustrious career also includes leadership positions at Accenture, where he served as Managing Director for the Africa Global Unit and led Cloud and Technology Consulting.

Makwane’s tenure at Microsoft spanned eight years, where he held key roles, including Country Managing Director for Nigeria and Public Sector Director in South Africa. Additionally, he spent five years as Cisco’s Regional Manager for the public sector in South Africa.

Alex Okosi, Managing Director of Google Africa, expressed enthusiasm about Makwane’s appointment:

Makwane, who holds an MBA from Wits Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, shared his vision
