Capitec and MultiChoice partner to offer discounted DStv Stream plans for South African customers

Capitec, a leading South African retail bank, has teamed up with MultiChoice to provide discounted DStv Stream plans to its customers. This follows an earlier partnership in August 2024, where Capitec and MultiChoice offered reduced rates for Showmax subscriptions.

Capitec CEO Gerrie Fourie revealed that the new DStv Stream vouchers will enable customers to access specific programs or channels at a lower cost. However, MultiChoice clarified that this is not a pay-per-view model, but rather a discount offering for Capitec clients.

However, this is not a pay-per-view model, as MultiChoicestated that, “We’re pleased to announce that from next month, Capitec clients will also benefit from discounted access to DStv Stream plans, giving them more ways to enjoy premium entertainment at a reduced cost.”

While the pricing for the discounted DStv Stream vouchers has not been released, MultiChoice South Africa CEO Marc Jury assured that further details would be available soon. During the August Showmax promotion, Capitec app users were able to purchase Showmax Entertainment for R49 per month (down from R99), while Showmax Premier League dropped to R34 per month.

This initiative aims to make quality content more accessible to a wider audience, particularly as MultiChoice addresses subscriber declines and revenue losses reported in its fiscal year ending March 2024. The company also continues to combat illegal streaming and push for legal reforms in South Africa.

Meanwhile, in other regions, such as Kenya and Nigeria, MultiChoice is increasing DStv subscription prices, highlighting the unique benefits of the South African partnership with Capitec.
