Buupass and GiftPesa launch digital travel vouchers for Kenya’s holiday travelers

In a strategic move aimed at transforming holiday travel, Kenya’s leading travel platform Buupass has partnered with award-winning fintech company GiftPesa to introduce digital travel vouchers, providing millions of Kenyans with a flexible and convenient way to book and gift travel arrangements.

The holiday season in Kenya typically starts in late November, with families and friends traveling across the country to celebrate together. Buupass, known for its user-friendly platform that simplifies booking bus and train tickets, is now integrating GiftPesa’s digital voucher technology to enhance the travel experience.

This partnership allows users to purchase and send travel tickets as digital gifts directly to recipients’ mobile phones, making it easier to manage travel plans during the busy season.

“We’ve noticed a growing demand for digital solutions in the travel industry, especially during peak periods like the holiday season,” said Sonia Kabra, director and co-founder of Buupass. “Our partnership with GiftPesa enhances the travel experience by allowing customers to send travel tickets as gifts and secure plans even when travel dates are uncertain.”

Unlike traditional paper vouchers that are prone to expiration or loss, GiftPesa’s digital vouchers are valid for 12 months and can be redeemed across over 3,000 outlets throughout Kenya.

This unique feature enables recipients to split voucher value across multiple trips or select their preferred destinations, adding a layer of personalization and accessibility to holiday travel.

In addition to convenience, the new digital vouchers are expected to ease congestion at bus and train ticketing counters during the festive season. Travelers can simply arrive at stations with their digital vouchers stored on their mobile devices, bypassing long queues and boarding without delay.

The partnership reflects a broader shift in Kenya toward mobile-first solutions in both the fintech and transportation sectors. As digital technology reshapes consumer expectations, Buupass and GiftPesa’s collaboration is poised to streamline travel, keeping pace with Kenya’s digitization efforts.

The new digital voucher service is now available on the Buupass platform, enabling customers to purchase tickets for loved ones and support seamless travel during the holiday period.
