According to BitcoinCasinos.com, the number of Bitcoin ATMs or crypto ATMs has significantly dropped this year, with over 5,300 ATMs removed year-to-date, bringing the total number to around 33,800 worldwide.
This comes after a continuous increase in the number of Bitcoin ATMs installed each month, with the highest number recorded in December 2022, at over 39,100.
However, this trend has changed, with a drop in the number of Bitcoin ATMs, marking the first drop in the crypto market’s history.
According to CoinATMRadar data, their number nearly quadrupled between January 2018 and mid-2020, jumping from 2,078 to 8,145. Statistics show 2020 saw 7,700 new crypto ATMs, almost three times more than the year before. However, the figures exploded in 2021.
By January 2022, there were over 34,400 Bitcoin ATMs worldwide, with 20,300 installed in 2021 alone. Statistics show this figure swelled to 39,186 by the end of the year, the highest number to date.
Most of the removed Bitcoin ATMs were in the United States, which still has the highest number of crypto ATMs globally, followed by Europe.
The largest crypto ATM manufacturer globally is General Bytes, with BitAccess ranking second, while 61% of all installed crypto ATMs support Altcoins.
“General Bytes is the largest crypto ATM manufacturer globally, with a 28,7% market share and over 9,700 machines as of April. BitAccess ranked second with a 20% market share and around 6,700 BTMs. Genesis Coin and CoinCloud follow with a 17% and 12,6% market share, respectively.”
Also, the Coin ATM Radar data showed that 61% of all installed crypto ATMs support Altcoins, 59% Litecoin, 55% Ethereum, and 35% Dogecoin.”
